Poor Fish

We went to the Clark Planetarium Thursday.  We pretended to walk on the moon and on Mars, and played in the gift shop.  Then we decided to go see "Under the Sea" in 3D since Garrett loves sea creatures so much.  We asked the planetarium staff if they thought it would be appropriate for a 4 year old, and the staff thought it would be completely fine.  Garrett was excited for the movie to start.

It started out great.  The 3D was awesome, the colors beautiful and vivid, and the sea creatures were really interesting.  Then some fish started to get eaten.

I didn't really like seeing it, since I am so ultra-sensitive to animals or any living things getting hurt or killed.  But it wasn't graphic or anything.  A larger fish would jump out and then the little fish that had just been swimming nearby was gone.  That's it.  But after one particularly bad part where three fish in a row were eaten, I suddenly heard Garrett starting to cry.  I picked him up and tried to soothe him, but by then he was crying too loud and I didn't want to bother the other patrons, so I took him out of the theatre.

Once we reached the hallway, I rocked him and tried to calm him down but he was so upset.  Finally he said "All those beautiful fish are gone.  They're never coming back."  Poor baby!  I felt so bad for him!  He finally calmed down, but it took a while, and he kept talking about the bad fish.  He already knew that sharks and fish eat other fish, but I guess knowing that and actually seeing it are two different things.  He's definitely my son.  I just hope he doesn't grow up being quite as sensitive as I am!

Garrett's Show

Garrett has been going to the Little Gym for a while now.  At the end of each semester, the kids do a little performance to show off all of their skills for the parents.  Garrett had his show earlier this week.

Normally he loves his gymnastics class, but the last few weeks he hasn't wanted to participate at all, so we weren't sure if he would even go in.  He did go in, but he wouldn't go with the teachers and the other kids to do their tricks.  But he did walk around on his own and showed us all of the fun stuff he can do.

He can do cartwheels, run across the balance beam quickly, and do great forward rolls and backward rolls.  He does fabulous handstands.  None of the pictures I got turned out great, but he still looks adorable.

We're Approved!

Happy 2010!

I can't believe it's 2010 already.  Wasn't it just Y2K?  Where has the time gone??  We are going to try to make this year the best year ever.  We don't usually make definite New Year's resolutions, but we are going to try to be better people.  We want to be more patient, more caring, better housekeepers (yeah right to that last one, but we'll give it a shot!), better people overall.  It's going to be a great year. 

Here are some photos from our New Year's Eve party at our friends Freda and Shawn's.  We've been going there the last few years and this year we slept over so we didn't have to drive home in the middle of the night.  Our friends Trevor and Jamie and their family spent the night too, and it was great to have one big sleepover.  We spent most of New Year's day there too, and had so much fun.  We love our friends.

Merry Christmas!

It's Christmas!  I love Christmas!

We've had a good day.  We slept until around 10:00, had cinnamon rolls, and opened presents.  Garrett's very favorite present was his present from Santa - a Star Wars Millenium Falcon ship that has sound effects and plays the Star Wars theme song.  He loved all of his other presents too, even though he got bored opening them after a while.  He wanted to play with each toy as he opened it, so Carl had to open the last few with him.

After that we went to see "The Princess and the Frog".  It was really cute.  The rest of the day we were pretty lazy.  We played the wii a lot, and played with Garrett's toys.  My parents made yummy Christmas dinner.  We're sleeping over tonight too, and we'll go home tomorrow.

Christmas Eve

We always sleep at my parents' house on Christmas Eve.  It started the first year Carl and I were married and I couldn't imagine waking up without my parents Christmas morning, so we slept over.  It's been a fun tradition.  We pack up our presents, head over to my parents', and add our presents under their tree.  Garrett knows Santa visits him at Grandma and Grandpa's, and it's been fun for him too.

This year Garrett wanted to put out milk and cookies for Santa, so after we drove around to see the lights on Christmas street, and he opened his Christmas Eve present (Jammies!  What else?!) we made cookies and left them out for Santa.

Visiting Santa

We finally made it to visit Santa.  Garrett did get to sit on Santa's lap at my family Christmas party, but we had been wanting to take him to see the Santa in the little house in Sugarhouse.  I used to go to see that Santa when I was little and we didn't make it last year, so I definitely wanted to go this year.

By the time we got there it was close to closing time, and there was a huge line.  It was snowing and freezing outside, but Garrett didn't mind.  He liked playing in the snow.

When we finally got to see Santa, Garrett didn't want to sit on his lap at first.  He finally agreed to, and told Santa he wanted a teddy bear and a new train for Christmas.  He's so cute!
