Garrett is F-I-V-E!

Wow, I really can't believe it.  I'm sure I'll be saying that every year, but really, FIVE?  That's so old!

So today is Garrett's actual birthday.  We had a nice little family day.  We went to the aquarium, which is one of his most favorite things to do, and then he got to choose a restaurant for dinner.  He chose Chili's, because they have chips and "sauce", and then we went to my parents' house for cake, ice cream, and presents.  As you can see from the pictures, Garrett decorated the cake all by himself.  He was pretty proud of his rainbow cake. (He dumped the entire carton of colored sugar on the cake when our backs were turned, but it is his birthday.)

Happy Birthday baby boy!!

Primary Program

Garrett's primary program at church was today.  He is pretty shy and I didn't think he would say his part, at least he didn't last year.  But I thought it would at least go up to sit on the stand and sing.  He didn't even make it that far - he started crying and eventually came to sit in the audience with us.  But we enjoyed ourselves listening to the other kids and we got some cute pictures afterward.

It's a Lego Party

Garrett's birthday party was today.  First of all, I'm soooo glad it's over.  The party itself was a lot of fun, but all of the prepwork was not.  I stayed up late every night this week and now I'm exhausted.  But Garrett and the other kids had a blast, so it was totally worth it.

We went with a Lego theme this year.  It was an obvious choice; Garrett is obsessed with Legos and has been for a while now.  We find Legos in every room in our house: bathroom, kitchen, laundry room, etc.  I've even seen them on our front porch.

We had legos on the cake, lego minifigure cupcake toppers, lego suckers, legos and lego crayons in the party favor boxes, not to mention all the Lego gifts.  I may be Lego'ed out, but Garrett loved it.

The party was at the Little Gym and it was pretty easy.  The kids really liked playing in the gym, and we didn't have to worry about entertaining them.  Garrett's birth mom Korinne even came with her daughter, so that was awesome.  And I don't have to worry about his birthday party for another year!

Fall is Coming

Fall is finally on its way.  We went for a drive up the canyon hoping to see some beautiful colors, but the leaves are just starting to change.  It was still really gorgeous, but we're planning on going again in a week or two to see more.

Garrett found an owie on his finger.  I love this face.

Fun in the Sun

We went to Bear Lake with a friend for the day.  The weather was supposed to be unusually hot for this time of year, and we decided it would be nice to get some beach time in before the cold.  The water was a little too cool, so we mostly stayed on the beach.  The sun was really warm and pleasant, and we really enjoyed ourselves.  But I forgot to put sunscreen on and got a really bad sunburn.  Still worth it though!

9/11

We always go to Sandy city to see the Healing Field of flags for 9/11.  The flags are so beautiful.

First Day of Preschool!

My baby boy started preschool today.  I can't believe he's so big already.  I didn't put him in preschool last year because I started looking for one too late, so this is his first year of school.  At first he didn't want to go to preschool at all, but we checked it out before we applied, and he really liked the teacher and the classroom.  Even with that, he had been saying lately that he didn't want to go to school, so I was worried about how it would be when we dropped him off.

Luckily, Garrett's friend Jacob is in the same class, and we arrived at preschool the same time that Jacob did.  Garrett gave us a hug and a wave, walked over to Jake, and they walked right in together.  I was expecting some clinging and crying, so it was a nice surprise.  I didn't even cry, which was also a nice surprise.  And when we went back to pick Garrett up, he didn't want to leave.  He's growing up!
